AquaGOOD 2nd PP meeting in Vastervik
The 2nd international AquaGOOD project (“Diversification of goods harvested from aquatic ecosystems at South Baltic small ports and communities”, No. STHB.01.02-IP.01-0004/23) Partner took place in Sweden, in the city of Västervik, on June 9-10. It was attended by representatives of the Lithuania Minor Protected Areas Directorate, Gdynia Maritime University, Klaipėda University, EUCC Baltic Office, “Ecopelag” and Ustka Port Authority.
The partners visited the mussel farm of one of the project partner institutions, the SME “Ecopelag” in the Tjusta archipelago, where they had a unique opportunity to see the process of mussel cultivation and harvesting, as well as water transport and all the necessary equipment for preparing the mussel harvest for transportation. In addition, the participants visited a fish factory, where they could observe the process of preparing mussels for animal feed: cleaning, washing, separating from shells, salting, drying and freezing.
After the partners inspected the process of growing and preparing mussels for consumption, it was agreed that Gdynia Maritime University together with the Ustka Port Authority, as well as Klaipėda University together with the EUCC Baltic Office and the Lithuania Minor Protected Areas Directorate, will establish local target groups, involving a wide range of SMEs and other stakeholders, who will try to consider how best to transfer the Ecopelag experience to the Polish and Lithuanian coasts.
